I just read the news about Salmonella outbreak is moving across the country. Health officials say that almost 400 people are sick nationwide and at least a dozen hospitalized because of the latest outbreak. Forty-two states are reporting cases of the same type of Salmonella, sickening people from Georgia to Minnesota and California. There were seven cases have been reported in Maryland too.

What is Salmonella?
Salmonella is a type of bacteria. There are many types of salmonella bacteria, but the type that commonly causes food poisoning is known medically as non-typhoidial salmonallae, which lives in the intestinal tracts of humans and other animals. It typically causes illnesses in humans when it is transmitted through foods contaminated with animal or human feces.

Symptoms of Salmnonella
Salmonella symptoms begin with nausea and vomiting and progress to abdominal pains and diarrhea. Additional signs and symptoms include fever, chills and muscle pains, headache, malaise that can last anywhere from several days to two weeks.
